How the Quiet Feather works

...Starting was simple: we just wanted to make something we really liked.
Like so many people, we were full of creative ideas, business ideas, things we wanted to be doing - but were tied up by jobs, commitments... After years of moaning, the QF is our attempt to do something about it by:

• Capturing people’s imagination with a company whose motivation is to create an enjoyable lifestyle for all involved, making a product we are really proud of and believe in.
• Proving it’s possible to make money without compromising what you want to do with your life. We want to inspire others to do the same.
• Providing a creative outlet for artists, writers, poets, photographers...
• NOT just being a worthy attempt to do the above - the key to our success is to make a magazine good enough that people want to read it.

We have the self awareness to acknowledge how naive this might all sound. Luckily we have the naivity to still think we can make it work.
 

Is this as selfish as it sounds?

• We will share our profits with contributors. This is to do our bit to make it possible for writers, artists, photographers to make some money doing what they love.
• We want to grow so more people, who also love what we do, can join in.

There’s no hierarchy or salaries. Everyone involved runs with their ideas to make our overall aims happen. They invest their time and ideas - and they’ll share the profits as we grow.  Here’s how we sketched it in a cafe in Manchester:

We fund each issue ourselves and there are no profits yet.. But when we can pay, we will pay.
